This is an enlarged version of the first edition which was printed by Robert Powell on the hand press in Panghai in 1913. The first edition was printed in Romanised letters and contained a number of 19 hymns and 2 Choruses. Of those No.1 to 5 are translations into Black Miao by the late S. R. Clarke, and No. 6 to 18 are translations by Robert Powell. The remaining hymns in this edition were translations made with the aid of the Black Miao believers. No. 79 to 104 are Chinese hymns put into the Chinese phonetic script corresponding to that used by the Panghai, Black Miao believers. This edition also includes Black Miao chorus, Keh Deo miao chorus, form of marriage service and funeral service, and a decision form. The tunes of the hymns, as sung by the Black Miao christians are indicated at the head of each hymn.
